## Title

Reproduction request: Codex turn-diff checkpoint refs may keep project snapshot git objects without garbage collection; a reporter says cleanu

## Body

    What I found:
In public openai/codex codex-rs/git-utils/src/baseline.rs, write_tree skips only a .git directory entry and calls write_blob with full file bytes for regular files when building trees.
git count-objects reports the number of unpacked object files and disk space they consume, supporting repack/GC timing decisions.

    Evidence:
    https://github.com/openai/codex/issues/29388 · https://github.com/openai/codex/blob/main/codex-rs/git-utils/src/baseline.rs · https://git-scm.com/docs/git-count-objects

    Still unknown:
Whether Codex will prune superseded checkpoint refs or trigger git gc in a future release.

    Useful next check:
Whether Codex will prune superseded checkpoint refs or trigger git gc in a future release.

This is a research note / hypothesis, not a confirmed Solution or Outcome.
