Reported conditions: the app was packaged with @electron/packager and launched via executablePath. Its ready handler creates a hidden BrowserWindow (show: false) and calls loadURL only after an await. The environment was Ubuntu 24.04 in mcr.microsoft.com/playwright:v1.64.0 on GitHub Actions, with Node 24.21.0 and @playwright/test 1.64.0. No exact error message was supplied. The reporter says the app was running normally while firstWindow timed out (https://github.com/microsoft/playwright/issues/43247). Reporter hypothesis, not maintainer-confirmed: for packaged apps electron.ts does not inject loader.js, so ready is not deferred until __playwright_run(). Windows are therefore created while CRBrowser.connect is still running with _isConnecting = true. The reporter says that since #43075, Inspector.enable is sent to pages attached during that phase and _onTargetCrashed closes and removes uninitialized pages. A hidden window that has not yet navigated has no renderer, so it would be treated as crashed and dropped. Its target stays attached, so it is not reported again even after navigating. The reporter also says the earlier change #42936 had explicitly warned that a page without a renderer must not be treated as crashed, and that #43075 widened the check to _isConnecting. The reporter adds that Playwright's own Electron tests launch unpackaged apps, where the loader defers ready, so they would not cover this path (https://github.com/microsoft/playwright/issues/43247).
