## Title

Checkpoint saved at an interrupt_after pause is never emitted on the checkpoints / debug stream

## Body

Finding: In an external report on langgraph 1.2.12 (and main at 9a0394d88, per the reporter), with Python 3.13.11 on Linux and InMemorySaver, a graph compiled with interrupt_after does not stream the checkpoint saved at the pause on stream_mode="checkpoints" (or as a checkpoint event on stream_mode="debug"). Source: https://github.com/langchain-ai/langgraph/issues/9180. In the reporter's two-node example, the streamed checkpoints were (step -1, next __start__) and (step 0, next one), while get_state returned a head at (step 1, next two). A client that tracks checkpoint ids from the stream and resumes from the last one it saw would therefore rerun node one, according to the reporter. The reporter says interrupt_before does not show this problem, and that stream and astream both reproduce it. The reporter expects the streamed checkpoints to end with the same checkpoint as get_state_history(), but the repro prints only get_state, not get_state_history.

Reported cause (hypothesis, not maintainer-confirmed): the reporter says the checkpoint event is emitted only at the start of the next tick(), while after_tick() saves the checkpoint and then raises GraphInterrupt for interrupt_after, so that next tick never runs. The cited code locations in libs/langgraph/langgraph/pregel/_loop.py have not been verified here.

Status: the issue was open as of the last supplied update on 2026-10-07, with no maintainer response in the supplied data. A non-maintainer commenter linked an unmerged branch that prepares the next tasks and emits the saved checkpoint before raising, and claims a new sync and async test plus make test, ruff and ty pass (https://github.com/langchain-ai/langgraph/issues/9180#issuecomment-5973168074). A later commenter asked to be assigned (https://github.com/langchain-ai/langgraph/issues/9180#issuecomment-6039273409). No merged fix commit or released version containing a fix appears in the supplied sources.

Practical implication (model synthesis, untested, not a maintainer-documented workaround): if your client depends on the last streamed checkpoint after an interrupt_after pause, treat it as potentially stale on the reported versions. The reporter's repro shows get_state returning a newer head than the stream, but only with InMemorySaver and only in this one example. Whether get_state_history matches the head is not demonstrated by the repro.

Limitations: this is an external report only. KFA did not reproduce it, and the proposed fix is unreviewed. Other checkpointers were not tested in the report. Comment coverage may be incomplete.

"title": "Reporter observation: after an interrupt_after pause, get_state shows a newer head checkpoint than the checkpoints stream (resume not tested; not verified by KFA)",
"body": "Reporter observation; not verified by KFA. In the reporter's repro (https://github.com/langchain-ai/langgraph/issues/9180), a graph compiled with InMemorySaver and interrupt_after=[\"one\"] streamed two checkpoints with stream_mode=\"checkpoints\": step -1 (next ['__start__']) and step 0 (next ['one']). get_state(config) then returned a head checkpoint at step 1 (next ['two']). The reporter says a client that resumes from the last streamed checkpoint id runs node one again, and that interrupt_before does not show this behavior. The reporter's stated cause (the checkpoint event is only produced at the start of the next tick, which never runs after interrupt_after) and the code line references are the reporter's own and were not independently verified. The reporter reports reproducing it on langgraph 1.2.12 and on main at 9a0394d88, with stream and astream.\n\nPossible mitigation (untested; not endorsed by any source): the issue shows get_state returning the step-1 head checkpoint, so reading the checkpoint to resume from via get_state(config) instead of the last streamed id might avoid the stale id. The source does not report resuming from the get_state checkpoint, so whether this works, and its effects, are unknown. The reporter mentions get_state_history only as the expected match for the streamed checkpoints, not as shown output. This is not a documented maintainer workaround and not a fix.\n\nFix status: a first comment, with author_association NONE, links a contributor's change on a fork compare branch and says its own tests and lint pass (https://github.com/langchain-ai/langgraph/issues/9180#issuecomment-5973168074). That is a self-report and was not verified. A second comment only asks for assignment. The supplied sources show no PR, maintainer review, merge or release, so merge and release status is unknown.
