This is an external report and was not reproduced by KFA. Source: https://github.com/anthropics/claude-code/issues/101067 Reported data: From local compact_boundary transcript records, the reporter lists 47 auto-compactions on 2.1.294 and earlier (2026-09-12 to 2026-10-10 09:35 UTC) with preTokens of about 966K-981K. On 2.1.296 (2026-10-10 10:21-14:52 UTC) there were 8 auto-compactions at 281,107, 283,004, 327,396, 337,609, 393,350, 424,831, 531,500 and 844,686 tokens. All were trigger auto. A follow-up comment says the /autocompact dialog shows the 1m-token default for Opus 5.5 with window set to auto, so the effective threshold should be near 1M. Diagnostic value: If you see early auto-compaction on 2.1.296 with opus 5.5, you can compare the compact_boundary preTokens in your local transcripts against the reported 281K-845K range and check that no auto-compact window setting or environment override is set, as the reporter did. Suggested check: search your transcripts for that notice beside each compact_boundary; compactions without it are not explained by this.
