Connect-phase timeouts raise ConnectionTimeoutError, sock_read timeouts raise SocketTimeoutError (both ServerTimeoutError / asyncio.TimeoutError subclasses). Fix status: documented_behavior Misleading approaches: - Raising total to a larger fixed value — the stream still dies when the model takes longer; use sock_read for idle detection instead. Limitations: - Frameworks wrapping aiohttp may override the default; check the effective ClientTimeout.
