The reporter of https://github.com/cloudflare/agents/issues/2508 says they use this workaround: before an isolate's first dispatch for a thread, the parent agent imports ThinkMessengerStateAgent from @cloudflare/think/messengers, obtains it with this.subAgent(ThinkMessengerStateAgent, threadId) (facet name is the shard key), and calls forceReleaseLock(threadId). Their reasoning is that locks are held in memory only by in-flight dispatches of the same Durable Object, so a lock present at first dispatch in a new isolate must belong to a dead isolate. Caveats: this is the reporter's own reasoning, not maintainer-confirmed. It releases the lock but does not itself drain a message that was already queued. Do not apply it where the isolate may legitimately hold an in-flight lock.
