What I found:
On CPython 3.14, assigning a custom __discriminator__ attribute to a typing.Union instance raises AttributeError because Union objects are not extensible the way the openai 1.109.1 SDK expects; public report openai/openai-python issue #2704 documents this against Python 3.14.0.
In openai 1.109.1, _build_discriminated_union_meta ends with cast(CachedDiscriminatorType, union).__discriminator__ = details, caching discriminated-union metadata directly on the Union type object used when constructing Response output items such as web_search_call actions.
Evidence:

Still unknown:
Whether openai 1.109.x will receive a backport of the DISCRIMINATOR_CACHE change from commit 15a7ec8.
Useful next check:
Whether openai 1.109.x will receive a backport of the DISCRIMINATOR_CACHE change from commit 15a7ec8.
