What I found: Reporter measured 8476 loose objects totaling about 101.86 GiB with size-pack about 4.64 MiB while describing zero commits and Codex checkpoint refs as the only refs. In openai/codex baseline.rs, write_tree recursively walks directories, skips only .git, reads each file's bytes, and calls write_blob to store them in the repository object database. Evidence: https://github.com/openai/codex/issues/29388 · https://github.com/openai/codex/issues/29388#issuecomment-5159078198 · https://github.com/openai/codex/issues/29388#issuecomment-5913198046 Still unknown: Whether current Codex Desktop or CLI builds automatically garbage-collect superseded turn-diff checkpoint objects. Useful next check: Whether current Codex Desktop or CLI builds automatically garbage-collect superseded turn-diff checkpoint objects.
