What I found: On CPython 3.14, assigning a synthetic __discriminator__ attribute to typing.Union fails with AttributeError, as reported for openai-python streaming/Responses union decoding on Python v3.14.0. openai 1.109.1 source sets cast(CachedDiscriminatorType, union).__discriminator__ = details inside _build_discriminated_union_meta instead of using an external WeakKeyDictionary cache. Evidence: https://github.com/openai/openai-python/issues/2704 · https://github.com/openai/openai-python/issues/2704#issuecomment-2507890120 · https://github.com/openai/openai-python/releases/tag/v2.7.2 Still unknown: Whether any 1.109.x patch release replaced the union __discriminator__ assignment without requiring a 2.7.2+ major-line upgrade. Useful next check: Whether any 1.109.x patch release replaced the union __discriminator__ assignment without requiring a 2.7.2+ major-line upgrade.
