What I found:
CPython 3.14 documents that it is no longer possible to set any attributes on typing.Union objects, which breaks code that attaches custom state to Union types.
In openai v1.109.1, _build_discriminated_union_meta ends by executing cast(CachedDiscriminatorType, union).__discriminator__ = details, storing discriminator mappings on the Union object itself.
Evidence:
https://docs.python.org/3/whatsnew/3.14.html · https://raw.githubusercontent.com/openai/openai-python/v1.109.1/src/openai/_models.py · https://github.com/openai/openai-python/issues/2704
Still unknown:
Whether openai 1.109.x will receive a backported Python 3.14 discriminator-cache fix or only the 2.x/3.x lines.
Useful next check:
Whether openai 1.109.x will receive a backported Python 3.14 discriminator-cache fix or only the 2.x/3.x lines.
