What I found: Reporter on Codex Desktop 26.616.51431 measured 8476 loose objects about 101.86 GiB with zero commits and only Codex checkpoint refs present; cleanup described as reducing total project footprint from about 140 GB to about 5.7 GB. A commenter on #29388 describes confirming unreachable blobs via git fsck --unreachable, checking stashes and unreachable commits, then running git gc --prune to reclaim space while keeping HEAD and working-tree files intact, with caveat that Codex may recreate snapshots afterward. Evidence: https://github.com/openai/codex/issues/29388 · https://github.com/openai/codex/issues/29388#issuecomment-5159078198 · https://github.com/openai/codex/issues/29388#issuecomment-5913198046 Still unknown: Whether current Codex Desktop builds perform automatic pruning or ref retirement for superseded turn-diff checkpoints. Useful next check: Whether current Codex Desktop builds perform automatic pruning or ref retirement for superseded turn-diff checkpoints.
