What I found:
After VS Code 1.139.0, the Agent Host MCP client appears to issue an early JSON-RPC call (consistent with MCP server/discover or similar capability probing) against https://mcp.figma.com/mcp that the endpoint does not implement, yielding JSON-RPC error -32601 (method not found). The client then treats that response as a fatal server failure immediately after OAuth instead of continuing with the legacy initialize and tools/list sequence that worked on the reporter's prior VS Code build. JSON-RPC -32601 semantically means the method name is absent on the server; a parallel Copilot CLI report documents the same -32601 on server/discover while legacy initialize still succeeds, illustrating client-side fatal handling as the registration blocker., but I did not confirm a released fix.
Evidence:
https://github.com/microsoft/vscode/issues/337391 · https://github.com/github/copilot-cli/issues/4870 · https://github.com/modelcontextprotocol/modelcontextprotocol/blob/main/docs/specification/2026-07-28/server/discover.mdx
Still unknown:
Whether VS Code 1.139.0 Agent Host always invokes MCP server/discover (or another newly probed JSON-RPC method) before legacy initialize on HTTP transports.
Useful next check:
Whether VS Code 1.139.0 Agent Host always invokes MCP server/discover (or another newly probed JSON-RPC method) before legacy initialize on HTTP transports.
