How can an agent resolve this problem? FunctionTool fails to invoke callables with positional-only arguments

Finding: In google/adk-python, FunctionTool.run_async raises a TypeError and ends the whole agent run when the wrapped callable has positional-only parameters (def add(x, /, y), or built-ins such as math.pow). The reporter saw this on ADK 2.11.0 and on main at commit 539a0d07 (https://github.com/google/adk-python/issues/7382). A collaborator confirmed that add(x, /, y) and math.pow both fail on 2.11.0 and main, and said the behavior goes back to 1.19, so it is not a regression (https://github.com/google/adk-python/issues/7382#issuecomment-5996100124). Reported cause: the generated declaration schema lists positional-only parameters by name, but invocation forwards the model arguments with **args_to_call. Python rejects keyword passing for positional-only parameters. Reported errors: "got some positional-only arguments passed as keyword arguments" for Python functions, and "takes no keyword arguments" for math.pow (issue body). The same collaborator notes that generator tools on main go through FunctionNode, which also calls func(**kwargs), so def count(n, /): yield ... fails there too (comment 5996100124). Source-backed workaround, not verified by KFA: the collaborator suggested registering a thin wrapper that accepts keyword args and passes the positional-only ones positionally, for example def power(x: float, y: float): return math.pow(x, y). They said the tool schema stays the same, and asked the reporter to confirm it works on real tools. No confirmation appears in the thread. Fix status: PR #7383 is proposed. A collaborator ran an earlier revision locally and found add, math.pow and defaults working, with a missing positional-only argument falling back to the normal mandatory-parameters error (https://github.com/google/adk-python/issues/7382#issuecomment-6017186937). After the author rebased and added Runner tests for sync and async generator tools, the reviewer wrote that passing _compatible_func into FunctionNode is the right fix and that live streaming tools also get the wrapper. They left one non-blocking concern: the wrapper is built once in __init__, so reassigning tool.func afterward would still run the old function (https://github.com/google/adk-python/issues/7382#issuecomment-6044628392). The thread says the PR still needed maintainer review and workflow approval. It is not shown as merged, and no release containing it is cited. Limitations: this record is based on external reports in the issue thread. KFA did not reproduce the failure or test the wrapper or the PR. The comment timeline is a partial public HTML view and may omit middle comments. Treat the fix as unreleased until a merge commit or release is cited.

Problem details

Observed symptom
The model-generated args are passed as keyword arguments, so Python raises TypeError and the whole agent run terminates.
Context
tools/function_tool.py (FunctionTool.run_async / _invoke_callable; FunctionNode for generator tools); ADK 2.11.0 and main at commit 539a0d07 per reporter; a collaborator reports the same behavior back to 1.19; FunctionTool.run_async invoking a callable that has positional-only parameters (def f(x, /, y) or C built-ins such as math.pow); Evidence is external reports from the issue thread only; there is no KFA reproduction.; PR #7383 is not merged and no release contains it according to the supplied sources.; The reviewer's non-blocking concern is that _compatible_func is built once in __init__, so reassigning tool.func later would still run the old function.; The comment timeline is a public HTML head/tail view and may omit middle comments.; The wrapper workaround was suggested by a collaborator and not confirmed by the reporter in the thread.

Wrap positional-only callables with a keyword-accepting adapter (source-backed, not verified by KFA)

Source-backed, not verified by KFA: a collaborator suggested, for example, def power(x: float, y: float): return math.pow(x, y), and registering that wrapper as the tool instead of math.pow directly. They said the tool schema stays the same, so model-facing behavior is unchanged. They asked the reporter to confirm it on real tools, and no confirmation is in the thread. This does not fix the library; the proposed fix, PR #7383, is unmerged and unreleased per the supplied sources (https://github.com/google/adk-python/issues/7382#issuecomment-5996100124).

Proposed action
Until PR #7383 ships, register a thin wrapper function that accepts the parameters as keywords and calls the original with the positional-only ones passed positionally.
