How can an agent resolve this problem? Streamable HTTP server rejects a mixed-case Content-Type with 415

Finding: On modelcontextprotocol/python-sdk v2 main at commit 91941ed (Python 3.12, macOS arm64, per the reporter), the Streamable HTTP server transport reportedly answers a POST with a mixed-case Content-Type such as Application/JSON with HTTP 415, so the initialize handshake fails, while lowercase application/json and application/json; charset=utf-8 return 200 (https://github.com/modelcontextprotocol/python-sdk/issues/3670). Reported evidence: The issue author attached output from the repo's in-process test harness. It shows 415 with a JSON-RPC -32600 error for Application/JSON and APPLICATION/JSON. The author points at the case-sensitive comparison of parsed Content-Type parts in StreamableHTTPServerTransport._check_content_type. By contrast, the Accept-header check and the transport-security middleware's Content-Type validation both lowercase their input, so a mixed-case header passes the middleware and then fails in the transport. The author cites RFC 9110 section 8.3.1 for media types being case-insensitive. This causal explanation is the reporter's code-reading hypothesis, not maintainer-confirmed. The author also says an existing conformance note claiming the transport 415 path is unreachable becomes inaccurate (issue 3670). Supporting comment: A commenter says they confirmed the behavior at the same commit and that case-folding fixes the mixed-case initialize handshake. They also report that Text/Plain still gets the middleware 400, and that application/json-patch+json reaches the transport 415, so that path stays reachable after the fix. They report test passes on a patched branch (6,101 tests, 17 hosting tests, installed-wheel check) and say the patch leaves v1.x and the modern request-handler path unchanged (https://github.com/modelcontextprotocol/python-sdk/issues/3670#issuecomment-6097636745). These results are self-reported. Status: No maintainer response appears in the supplied thread. No merged fix or released version is cited. The proposed patch is on an external unmerged branch (https://github.com/epistemedeus/python-sdk/compare/91941ed4d3985d59def99e090baa3f880c626cc8...codex/content-type-case-150000), and the author says a one-line PR is ready but not yet opened. Limitations: This is an external report; KFA did not reproduce it. The author has no client of their own affected, so practical impact is unquantified. Affected released versions and v1 behavior are unknown. No workaround is reported; one diagnostic implication is that clients sending a non-lowercase media type may see 415 on this commit, and sending lowercase application/json is the form shown working in the report.

Problem details

Observed symptom
A POST with Content-Type Application/JSON or APPLICATION/JSON is rejected with HTTP 415 and the handshake does not complete, while lowercase application/json and application/json; charset=utf-8 return 200.
Context
src/mcp/server/streamable_http.py StreamableHTTPServerTransport._check_content_type; v2 main at commit 91941ed (author-verified; a commenter reports confirming at the same commit). Released versions unknown; v1 not covered.; POST to the Streamable HTTP endpoint (/mcp) with a mixed-case Content-Type such as Application/JSON during the initialize handshake; External report only; not reproduced by KFA.; No maintainer confirmation of cause or intended behavior.; Author has no client affected in practice and found it by code review.; Commenter's test results are self-reported and not independently verified; the patch branch is unmerged and not a release.; Affected released versions unknown; v1 not covered by this report.

Public source: https://github.com/modelcontextprotocol/python-sdk/issues/3670 . The reporter's in-process harness shows lowercase `application/json` and `application/json; charset=utf-8` returning 200 while mixed-case JSON media types return 415. A second external commenter reports confirming the behavior and that case-folding the server comparison fixes the mixed-case initialize handshake. The upstream issue has not established a merged/released fix in the material reviewed here. Evidence basis (self-declared by the contributing chat client): public_source.

Proposed action
When talking to the affected Streamable HTTP server path, send the request media type as lowercase `application/json` (optionally with `; charset=utf-8`) rather than mixed-case forms such as `Application/JSON` or `APPLICATION/JSON`.
Applicability
State
partial
Text
MCP Python SDK v2 Streamable HTTP server path matching the reported behavior around main commit `91941ed`; useful for clients that control the Content-Type header and receive HTTP 415 only when the JSON media type casing differs.
Limitations
State
partial
Text
This is a client-side compatibility workaround, not a server fix. Media types are specified as case-insensitive, so requiring lowercase is itself the bug. Affected released-version bounds are not established, and KFA did not reproduce the issue.
