How can an agent resolve this problem? getWSEndpoint drops browserURL path prefix when resolving /json/version

Finding: In Puppeteer's BrowserConnector getWSEndpoint, a browserURL that includes a path prefix (for example http://host:9222/t/token behind a reverse proxy or tunnel) is reported to lose that prefix when puppeteer.connect discovers the WebSocket endpoint. The affected version is UNKNOWN. This is an external report and was not reproduced by KFA. Reported symptom: the HTTP discovery request goes to http://host:9222/json/version rather than under /t/token/json/version, per the issue body (https://github.com/puppeteer/puppeteer/issues/15250). No explicit error string is given; the failure is a wrongly routed request. The reporter also notes that chrome-devtools-mcp, which bundles Puppeteer and exposes --browserUrl, is affected. Reported cause: the code builds the URL with new URL('/json/version', browserURL). Because the path starts with a slash, WHATWG URL resolution replaces the whole base pathname (issue body, https://github.com/puppeteer/puppeteer/issues/15250). A commenter said the same line was still present on main, in packages/puppeteer-core/src/common/BrowserConnector.ts, and checked it with plain URL logic and no browser (https://github.com/puppeteer/puppeteer/issues/15250#issuecomment-5883808378). That is a community analysis, not a maintainer-confirmed cause. Proposed mitigation (hypothesis in the source): copy browserURL into a URL object and append json/version to the existing pathname, normalizing to a single trailing slash. The commenter said this holds with and without a trailing slash and with a query string, and warned that a relative-URL one-liner breaks when a query string is present (comment 5883808378). This was checked only by that commenter's URL logic. Adjacent caveat from the same commenter: the webSocketDebuggerUrl returned by /json/version is built by Chrome from the Host header, so behind a path-rewriting proxy it may still lack the prefix. The commenter considered this the proxy's responsibility and separate from this issue (comment 5883808378). Fix status: a COLLABORATOR commented on 2026-10-01 that the issue was fixed and linked PR 15435 (https://github.com/puppeteer/puppeteer/issues/15250#issuecomment-5930740321). The issue is closed, but PR content, merge status and the release containing it were not supplied, so the shipped fix and fixed version are unverified. No workaround was stated by the source. Limitations: external reports only; no KFA reproduction; affected and fixed versions unknown; comment coverage may omit middle comments.

Problem details

Observed symptom
HTTP discovery request goes to /json/version on the host root instead of under the browserURL path prefix, so the prefix is silently dropped.
Context
BrowserConnector getWSEndpoint (packages/puppeteer-core/src/common/BrowserConnector.ts); UNKNOWN; puppeteer.connect with browserURL containing a path prefix (reverse proxy or tunnel); Reported by external users; not reproduced by KFA.; PR 15435 was not supplied, so its diff, merge and release version are unverified.; Affected and fixed versions are UNKNOWN.; The commenter's URL-logic check is not an independent browser test and uses the same code reading as the reporter.; Comments coverage may omit middle comments.; No workaround was stated in the source.; No exact error message is reported; the failure is a wrong request path.

Upgrade puppeteer-core to 25.13.0 or later to keep browserURL path prefixes

Finding: The browserURL path-prefix loss in puppeteer.connect is fixed in puppeteer-core 25.13.0 (released 2026-10-08). Reported symptom: with browserURL like http://host:9222/t/token, getWSEndpoint called new URL('/json/version', browserURL). The leading slash replaced the base path, so the request went to /json/version without the prefix (https://github.com/puppeteer/puppeteer/issues/15250). A COLLABORATOR commented that the issue was fixed by PR #15435 and closed it as completed (https://github.com/puppeteer/puppeteer/issues/15250#issuecomment-5930740321). The puppeteer-core 25.13.0 release notes list under Fixes: 'connect: preserve browserURL path prefixes (#15435)' with commit 8d816de. That is an explicit fix reference, so the release inclusion is source-backed (https://github.com/puppeteer/puppeteer/releases/tag/puppeteer-core-v25.13.0). The 25.12.0 and earlier release notes in the supplied list do not mention it. The puppeteer 25.13.0 package depends on puppeteer-core 25.13.0 (https://github.com/puppeteer/puppeteer/releases/tag/puppeteer-v25.13.0). Action: upgrade puppeteer-core or puppeteer to 25.13.0 or later, then check that the discovery request reaches <prefix>/json/version. No workaround was stated in the sources. Caveats: a commenter noted that /json/version returns an absolute webSocketDebuggerUrl built by Chrome from the Host header, so behind a path-rewriting proxy that URL may still lack the prefix. They considered that the proxy's responsibility and separate from this fix (https://github.com/puppeteer/puppeteer/issues/15250#issuecomment-5883808378). I did not see the PR diff, so I cannot confirm that the merged code matches the proposed pathname approach or handles query strings. No KFA reproduction. Tools that bundle Puppeteer, such as chrome-devtools-mcp, need a release that bundles a fixed puppeteer-core; that was not verified.

Proposed action
Upgrade puppeteer-core (and puppeteer, which depends on it) to 25.13.0 or later. Then verify the discovery request goes to <browserURL path>/json/version. If the connection still fails, check that your proxy rewrites webSocketDebuggerUrl.

PR #15435 diff and review were not supplied; the exact merged behavior, including query strings, is unverified.; Release inclusion rests on the release note citing #15435 and commit 8d816de; no tag containment check was performed.; No KFA or independent reproduction of the fix.; Whether chrome-devtools-mcp ships a fixed puppeteer-core is unverified.; The webSocketDebuggerUrl prefix issue behind path-rewriting proxies is not addressed by this fix.
