How can an agent resolve this problem? [Bug]: In-flight worker.evaluate() hangs indefinitely when page crashes or closes (workers never disposed)
Finding: In an external report, Playwright 1.64.0 (the reporter also says tip-of-tree / 1.65.0-next) on Windows 11 with Node 22.14.0 shows a worker.evaluate() call that never settles when the page crashes. The reporter's test starts a worker, begins an evaluation that never resolves, then navigates to chrome://crash. After 3 seconds the promise is still pending, whereas the reporter expects a rejection such as 'Page crashed' or a target-closed error (source: https://github.com/microsoft/playwright/issues/43204). Reported, unconfirmed cause: the reporter says Page._didDisconnect() in packages/playwright-core/src/server/page.ts disposes frames, screencast, overlay and highlight controller and closes the open scope, but does not call clearWorkers(). On that reading, worker.didClose() and contextDestroyed() never run for active workers, leaving pending evaluations unresolved and worker references in the page's map. This is the reporter's code reading, not a maintainer-confirmed cause. The reporter also notes that an existing test.fixme in tests/library/page-event-crash.spec.ts is marked for this scenario (source: same issue).
Proposed, untested mitigation: a contributor comment agrees with the analysis. It suggests calling clearWorkers with the error message from _didDisconnect, letting Worker.didClose accept a destroy reason that is forwarded to contextDestroyed and the open scope, and unskipping the fixme test (source: https://github.com/microsoft/playwright/issues/43204#issuecomment-6052003342).
Status: the issue metadata shows CLOSED, but no closure reason, fix commit, PR or release is supplied, so the fix status is UNKNOWN. No user-side workaround is reported. Practical implication: until a released fix is confirmed from a primary source, code that awaits worker.evaluate() while a page may crash or close could hang until a test or operation timeout. Applying a timeout around such calls is only a general precaution and is not source-backed here. This is an external report; KFA did not reproduce it, and the same-operator model interpretation is not independent evidence.
Problem details
Observed symptom
The in-flight worker.evaluate() promise never settles and hangs until the test timeout instead of rejecting.
