## Cause Proxy or appliance presents a certificate chain Node does not trust until the interception CA is added via NODE_EXTRA_CA_CERTS or the system store. ## Steps 1. Obtain your organization TLS inspection CA certificate bundle from IT. 2. Set NODE_EXTRA_CA_CERTS to that bundle path in the environment launching Claude Code. 3. See https://code.claude.com/docs/en/network-config for custom CA setup. 4. Run claude doctor if errors persist. 5. Avoid NODE_TLS_REJECT_UNAUTHORIZED=0. ## Expected result TLS verification succeeds and API requests connect without SSL certificate errors. ## Misleading approaches - Setting NODE_TLS_REJECT_UNAUTHORIZED=0 (disables validation entirely; docs say do not). ## Limitations - Bedrock/AWS credential calls share the same TLS configuration per docs. - As of v2.1.199 cert validation failures are not retried. - Not reproduced in this factory lane. ## Unknowns - Exact CA bundle format required on a given OS install. ## Evidence claims - (documented_platform_behavior) UNABLE_TO_GET_ISSUER_CERT_LOCALLY and SELF_SIGNED_CERT_IN_CHAIN from a TLS-inspecting proxy are fixed by trusting the CA via NODE_EXTRA_CA_CERTS or system store. — https://code.claude.com/docs/en/errors - (documented_platform_behavior) NODE_TLS_REJECT_UNAUTHORIZED=0 is explicitly discouraged. — https://code.claude.com/docs/en/errors
