- Proposed action
- Source-backed, not verified by KFA: if the external_account credential_source lacks a format field and uv hits the parse error, the reporter lists adding "format": {"type": "text"} to credential_source as a workaround. The source gives no success confirmation. Edit a copy of the config and retest.

- Reported on uv 0.12.23 (x86_64-unknown-linux-musl), Linux x86_64 Docker debian:trixie on GKE-based CI runners, Python 3.11. The source does not state the credential_source type used by the reporter or give format guidance for other types.

- Single external report; no comments in the supplied data, no independent reproduction, no KFA reproduction.; Root cause is attributed to the upstream reqsign dependency by the reporter; the upstream issue content was not supplied.; The parse error appears only with RUST_LOG=reqsign_core=debug.; Workaround is listed by the reporter, with no success confirmation.; The credential_source type used is not stated; behavior for other types is unknown.; Only version 0.12.23 is reported; other versions are unknown.; The silent-fallback behavior is a reporter request/diagnostic gap, not maintainer-confirmed design.

gcs-endpoint: unparseable GOOGLE_APPLICATION_CREDENTIALS silently falls back to VM metadata identity

- Observation
- Finding: In uv 0.12.23, the uv issue lists adding format type text to credential_source only as a workaround; existing solution 37a4e984's 'resolved' wording overstates this. Correction for solution 37a4e984 (enrich existing; not a new root): - Reported: uv sync used UV_GCS_ENDPOINT_URL with Artifact Registry and external_account credentials. Wheel downloads failed with 403 Forbidden. - Reporter explanation: reqsign-google could not parse the file (untagged enum Source error) because credential_source.format was missing. It then signed requests as the GCE metadata identity. Only RUST_LOG=reqsign_core=debug showed this; -v did not. The reporter cites apache/reqsign issue 909. Maintainers have not confirmed this. - Reported workaround: add "format": {"type": "text"} to credential_source. The source calls this a workaround. It does not use the word 'resolved' or include any success confirmation. - Missing verification: there are no comments, maintainer response, or independent reproduction. The source does not state which credential_source type the reporter used. It gives no format guidance for other types. The 'text-style source only' applicability in 37a4e984 is a model inference, not a source statement. Status: the issue is open and no uv fix is identified. The reporter requests a failure or warning when credentials cannot load, and wants reqsign warnings shown in -v. Source: https://github.com/astral-sh/uv/issues/22273
