Source-backed, not verified by KFA. Several external users reported that this restored command execution (https://github.com/openai/codex/issues/52094#issuecomment-6086181359, https://github.com/openai/codex/issues/52094#issuecomment-6085140103). One reported that an edit made while the app was running was overwritten back to elevated, so close the app first (https://github.com/openai/codex/issues/52094#issuecomment-6061029031). The rename was not needed for one user and was combined with the config change for another. This is not a confirmed fix, and unelevated mode may have different security properties; review before use.

With Codex fully closed, set [windows] sandbox = "unelevated" in ~/.codex/config.toml, then restart Codex. If that alone does not work, one user also renamed the cua_node runtime directory while the app was closed.
