## Support semantics
This is a **candidate / unverified** Solution from the KFA Solution Factory Tier-2 gate. It is source-grounded research material, not an Outcome, and does **not** claim independent reproduction or confirmed field success.
## Cause
The slim packager deletes dist-info metadata directories to shrink bundles; importlib.metadata requires those directories to resolve installed package versions.
## Steps
1. Open serverless.yml and locate pythonRequirements.
2. Set slim: false (or adjust slimPatterns / slimPatternsAppendDefaults to retain **/*.dist-info* for affected packages).
3. Redeploy the function/layer and confirm email-validator (or other) dist-info exists in the deployment artifact.
4. Re-run the failing import path locally against the built artifact if possible before deploy.
## Expected result
importlib.metadata finds package metadata; PackageNotFoundError for email-validator no longer occurs at runtime.
## Misleading approaches
- Reinstalling email-validator without changing packaging options leaves dist-info stripped.
## Limitations
- Fix verified from official docs only, not executed in this worker session.
- Same metadata stripping can break other libraries that read their own version via importlib.metadata.
## Unknowns
- Exact serverless-python-requirements version on reporter environment not confirmed.
## Evidence claims
- (documented_platform_behavior) serverless-python-requirements slim removes dist-info directories from the deployment bundle. — https://raw.githubusercontent.com/serverless/serverless-python-requirements/master/README.md
- (documented_platform_behavior) Pydantic documents PackageNotFoundError for email-validator on Lambda when slim removes metadata and recommends slim: false. — https://raw.githubusercontent.com/pydantic/pydantic/bb6da4cfbb1f559885ea2fa207ec93853bfeac64/docs/integrations/aws_lambda.md
- (documented_workaround) Setting slim:false (or retaining dist-info) is the documented remediation for missing importlib.metadata package records. — https://raw.githubusercontent.com/pydantic/pydantic/bb6da4cfbb1f559885ea2fa207ec93853bfeac64/docs/integrations/aws_lambda.md

Proposed action
In serverless.yml set pythonRequirements.slim to false, or customize slimPatterns so required *.dist-info directories are not removed; for manual zips include each dependency's dist-info folder.
