Source-backed, not verified by KFA: the reporter of issue #101072 says that after a hard power-off, a reinstall reused the corrupted extension folder. Their reported recovery was to re-extract the files from the intact cached VSIX in %APPDATA%\Code\CachedExtensionVSIXs, or to delete the extension folder before reinstalling. They also suggest checking whether webview/index.js is all zero bytes (blank panel) and comparing resources/native-binary/claude.exe against the VSIX copy (stream-json error). Only the reporter's own environment (2.1.296, Windows x64) supports this; it is not maintainer-confirmed and is not a product fix. Back up the folder before deleting or replacing files. Proposed action
If the panel is blank or shows the stream-json error after a crash or power loss and a reinstall does not help, the reporter suggests comparing the extension files with the cached VSIX and restoring them from it, or deleting the extension folder before reinstalling.

Text
Single reporter and a single environment; no independent reproduction and no KFA reproduction.; Root cause is local file corruption after a power loss; whether the product should detect it is a feature or behavior request, not a confirmed defect.; No maintainer response.; Related issues #69128, #69318 and #61140 are mentioned only by the reporter; their causes were not verified here.; Steps to reproduce use manually simulated corruption, not an observed natural recurrence.
